After Sylvia: Poems and Essays in Celebration of Sylvia Plath

After Sylvia, an anthology of poems and essays celebrating the work and legacy of Sylvia Plath, will be published by Nine Arches Press in October 2022 to mark the 90th anniversary of Plath’s birth.
The book – co-edited by Sarah Corbett and Ian Humphreys – will include commissioned poems and essays, as well as winning entries from The Sylvia Plath Prize – a new themed international poetry competition. More details are below.

A series of celebratory After Sylvia events will lead up to and accompany the anthology’s publication. These include launches (in West Yorkshire, Manchester and London), workshops, library displays, online events, and two poetry competitions – one is a collaboration with the Poetry Society’s Young Poets Network. The Sylvia Plath Prize, which is for poets aged 18 and over, will be open for entries from October 27 to December 31, 2021.

The After Sylvia project is produced by Ian Humphreys and generously supported by an Arts Council England Lottery Funded Project Grant. Official partners include the Poetry Society and the Manchester Poetry Library.

Subject to further funding, the world’s first Sylvia Plath Literary Festival will take place from 21 – 23 October, 2022 in Hebden Bridge and will host the book’s official launch. Sarah Corbett is the festival’s director.
